UTAH INDEPENDENT PRODUCER LANDS BIG CONCESSION IN POLAND
Polish Concession (25796 bytes)
A Utah independent operator has agreed to explore a large concession in northern Poland.
Frontier Exploration Co, Salt Lake City, last month signed a letter of understanding with the Polish Ministry of Environmental Protection, Natural Resources, and Forestry for exploration in the onshore Baltic province. The letter covers an area of about 10,000 sq km southeast of Gdansk and 75 km southeast of oil fields in Russia's Kaliningrad enclave that have produced about 200 million bbl of oil.
The agreement calls for Frontier to drill at least one well to Cambrian in each of two 3 year exploration phases. Cambrian sandstones produce in Kaliningrad fields and in oil fields in the Polish offshore portion of the Baltic province that are being developed by state owned Polish Oil & Gas Co. (OGJ, Dec. 14, 1992, Newsletter).
The wells will be programmed to 2,000-3,500 m, with the first one to spud in 1996. Before drilling, Frontier will reprocess 500-1,000 km of seismic data and acquire new seismic data as needed.
The company's concession application followed a regional evaluation of Poland by Frontier and a pilot study by Echo Geophysical, Denver, of regional lines chosen from an extensive pre-1984 data set.
Geological and geophysical work required under the agreement will begin after final approval of the concession agreement. Frontier expects approval to be in hand by May.
Frontier, which is seeking industry partners, plans to retain at least a 50% working interest in the concession.
