DEVELOPMENT SLATED WEST OF SHETLANDS
BP Exploration Operating Co. Ltd. has let contract to a combine of McDermott International Inc. and Golar-Nor Offshore AS to convert a support vessel to a floating production unit for development of Foinaven oil field in the U.K. Atlantic Ocean frontier.
The field, in Block 204/24a, will be the first developed west of the Shetland Islands (OGJ, June 20, p. 16).
BP plans to place the field on stream late next year or in early 1996. Oil will be produced through subsea wells into the storage vessel and exported in two shuttle tankers.
McDermott/Golar-Nor will convert the Anadyr support vessel to an 80,000 b/d production ship with 300,000 bbl of oil storage capacity, along with 120 MMcfd gas injection and 165,000 b/d water injection capacities. BP is operator and 80% owner of the field. Shell U.K. Ltd. holds 20%.
