BP PREPARING FOR HYDROFINER AT GRANGEMOUTH
British Petroleum Co. plc has begun installing piles at its Grangemouth, Scotland, refinery to prepare for construction of a 3,D , 000 b/d hydrofiner beginning early next year.
The 60 million ($90 million) hydrofiner will go on stream in 1996 to produce low sulfur diesel fuel in line with new European Union requirements.
A BP spokesman said the hydrofiner is the last piece of equipment required to bring the 190,000 b/d plant in line with the current stack of EU environmental legislation (OGJ, Jan. 25, 1993, p. 29).
Engineering, procurement, and construction of the hydrofiner is being conducted by AMEC Engineering Ltd. The work is a continuation of a front end design project completed by AMEC in August 1993.
Hydrofiner site preparation and electrical tie-ins are complete. Structural steel work is to begin toward the end of this year.
