Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) has issued long awaited changes in state proration rules for supergiant Hugoton gas field.
KCC said rule changes probably will increase production in the field by 10 15%, or about 40 60 bcf/year. Hugoton production in 1993 was about 400 bcf. The changes will be effective Apr. 1, unless expected requests for a rehearing prevent the final order from standing as it is written.
Oxy USA Inc., which in May 1992 applied for the Hugoton proration rule changes that precipitated the Feb. 2 order, expressed mixed feelings about the final order while noting an expected production increase. Other companies operating in the mammoth gas field, largest in North America, estimated substantial production increases as a result of the order.
Hugoton, discovered in 1922, produces gas from 5,854 wells completed in Permian/Pennsylvanian limestone and dolomite at about 2,60 )2,91
