YPF names new president, CEO
YPF, Argentina’s largest integrated oil and gas company, will appoint Horacio Marín as president and chief executive officer of the company.
Marín, an engineer with 35 years of experience at Tecpetrol where he last served as director of exploration and production, was initially appointed as a director of YPF during a board meeting.
Marín will consolidate the roles of president and chief executive officer previously held by Pablo González and Pablo Iuliano, respectively.
Marín's technical knowledge and experience in managing large projects are considered assets in his new role, however he will face pressure to maintain the profitability of the company, manage its debt, and navigate a complex political and economic environment.
Marín's appointment comes at a critical time in the Argentine energy sector. The need for investment in infrastructure, efficient management of natural resources, and adaptation to global trends will require special attention. Furthermore, a potential privatization of YPF, announced by President Milei during the electoral campaign, could redefine the country's energy landscape, with implications for both the domestic market and Argentina's position in the global energy market.
