EnQuest enters Indonesia with plans to serve as operator of Gaea, Gaea II exploration blocks
EnQuest has signed an agreement to enter Indonesia and serve as operating partner on the Gaea and Gaea II blocks in Papua Barat.
The company signed production sharing contracts with SKK Migas and joint venture partners for the exploration blocks, it said in a release Aug. 26, noting that according to the 2024 bidding round presentation from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the blocks, which lie in proximity to the bp-operated Tangguh LNG plant, present an estimated resource potential in excess of 100 tscf.
The total area of the two blocks is about 12,000 sq km, joint venture partner CNOOC said in a separate release Aug. 26, noting the first stage of the exploration period under the agreement is 3 years.
EnQuest said prospectivity of the blocks could add upside to the company's current southeast Asia portfolio, a region from which it expects to deliver more than 35,000 boe/d of oil and gas production by 2030.
In April 2025, the Indonesian government has confirmed the winning bidders for Gaea, Gaea II exploration blocks. The Tangguh partners (BP Exploration Indonesia Ltd., MI Berau BV, ENEOS Xplora Inc., CNOOC Southeast Asia Ltd., Indonesia Natural Gas Resources Muturi Inc. and KG Wiriagar Petroleum Ltd.) jointly hold 40% non-operating interests. EnQuest holds 40% operating interest and Agra holds 20% non-operating interest.
