The US Environmental Protection Agency hosted a two-day oil and gas roundtable with stakeholders including state and local leaders, Indian tribes, trade associations and producers, and environmental organizations. “This roundtable fulfills a commitment I made last year to improve EPA’s working relationship with state regulators and American businesses,” Administrator E. Scott Pruitt said on Feb. 28 after it concluded.
He committed to holding the meeting in 2017 after oil and gas associations in Colorado and North Dakota expressed regulatory compliance concerns. The Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission and the Environmental Council of States were co-hosts. “EPA is working closely with the states to provide clarity and certainty to oil and gas rules and permitting processes,” Pruitt declared.
“It was a good opportunity for everyone to share ideas,” Western Energy Alliance Pres. Kathleen Sgamma, who attended the roundtable’s first day of sessions, told OGJ on Mar. 1.
