Chevron mourns passing of former chairman, CEO Harold J. Haynes

Harold J. “Bill” Haynes, Chevron Corp.’s former chairman and CEO passed away recently; he was 83. David J. O’Reilly, the company’s current chairman and CEO commented, “Bill drove tremendous growth in the company and solidified its preeminent position in the industry by the time of his retirement,” said O’Reilly. “He left an indelible mark on our company, and our industry, by encouraging open dialogue and challenging conventional thinking.” Haynes joined the company, then Standard Oil Co. of California, in 1947 and served in roles of increasing responsibility through the years. He was elected to the board in 1966 and was elected president of the company in 1969. He became board chairman in 1974 and retired in 1981. Haynes graduated from Texas A&M University after serving with the US Navy in World War II.

Darden named chair oil, gas at Baker Botts

Michael P. Darden has been named firmwide chair of the Oil and Gas Section at Baker Botts LLP. Prior to joining Baker Botts as a partner, Darden was vice president of business development at Nuevo Energy Co. Dearden earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas, his law degree from the University of Houston, and his MBA from Rice University.

IPAA names Jarvis VP

The Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) has named Bob Jarvis as vice president of membership, business development and capital markets. Jarvis comes to IPAA from Vantage Marketplace, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Goldman Sachs Group Inc., where he helped launch and grow an educational consulting business designed to assist those deploying capital in the energy business. Prior to Vantage Marketplace, Jarvis worked at Hart Publications in a variety of roles. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree.

Nash joins SMH Capital as managing director to head OTCQX advisory group

Stephen Nash has joined SMH Capital Inc. as managing director and head of its OTCQX advisory practice. Both before and after the market launch in 2007, Nash worked closely with the OTCQX market founders. To date, Nash has overseen the sponsorship of approximately 25% of all companies listed on the OTCQX market and 80% of companies listed by an investment bank. Prior to joining SMH Capital, Nash was a managing director and head of Merriman Curhan Ford’s OTCQX Advisory Group. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Davidson College.

Gray Wireline names Harris president, CEO

Gray Wireline Service Inc., a provider of cased-hole wireline services to the natural gas and oil exploration and production industry has named Mark Harris as president and CEO. Harris succeeds Jim Meneely, Gray’s interim CEO. Meneely will continue to serve the company as vice chairman of the board. Harris has over 29 years of experience in the wireline industry. Most recently, he has held leadership positions with Baker Atlas.

Robert Hallett to lead Houston office of FBR Capital Markets

FBR Capital Markets Corp. has hired Robert Hallett to join the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources group to oversee the Houston office. Hallett joins from RBC Capital Markets where he was a managing director within the firm’s Energy Investment Banking practice and Mergers & Acquisitions group for the past nine years. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alberta and holds a bachelor of laws degree from the University of Calgary.

Bailey named chair, CEOBlack Dragon Resources

Black Dragon Resource Cos. Inc. has named Dr. R. Gerald Bailey as chairman and CEO. Bailey has over 45 years of experience in the industry. He was the former president of Exxon, Arabian Gulf, and has held a number of executive positions and board level assignments. He also served as chairman of Bailey Petroleum, chairman and CEO of Texas Southern Oil and Gas LLC, and partner of BCM Energy Investments. He holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees.

Ashton Oilfield Services expands; selects new COO

Ashton Oilfield Services LLC has acquired a new operations facility in Indiana, Penn. in preparation to drill in the Marcellus Shale-Appalachian Basin. David D. Lawrence has been selected to lead the expansion as COO of the company. He has decades of experience in the industry including holding vice president and CFO positions. He is a graduate of Abilene Christian University.

Multi-Chem opens business development office in New Orleans

Multi-Chem, a global provider of oilfield production chemicals, has opened a new global business development office in New Orleans. The office will support the Gulf of Mexico region and deepwater operations worldwide, in conjunction with an operations office and blend facility in New Iberia, La. The GoM Region Operations group will maintain an office at the New Orleans location manned by the Eastern GoM area manager, Mark Yorkey. Allen Wiley, senior projects manager, will oversee the new office from New Orleans. Wiley has spent 30 years in the industry, working with NL Industries and Baker Hughes before joining Multi-Chem in 2006. Willis has almost 40 years of experience, spending 13 years with Champion Technologies and over 25 years with Petrolite’s Tretolite division.

Magnum Hunter Resourcesnames M. Bradley Davis senior VP, capital markets

Magnum Hunter Resources has named M. Bradley Davis as senior vice president of capital markets. Davis will have responsibility for the company’s investor relations efforts, as well as other specific capital markets and finance related projects. Davis has 28 years of experience in the energy industry. He joined the old Magnum Hunter in 2002 and then served as the company’s senior vice president and CFO when the company was acquired by Cimarex Inc. Since June 2005, Davis has been a personal investor in the energy and agricultural sectors. He received a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University.

Northern Explorations appoints new CFO, relocates to Dallas

Northern Explorations Ltd. has appointed Scott W. Hatfield to the position of CFO. In his 30 years’ experience, Hatfield has worked for both publicly and privately held companies, including Grant Thornton LLP and other CPA firms, and his own practice in November 1993. He has also served as CFO, in private industry. Additionally, the company has accepted the resignation of David Naylor from his positions as CFO and company director. Finally, the company has moved its corporate headquarters to Dallas.

Noble names Jacobsen,Hunt to senior VP posts

Noble Corp. has named D.E. “Don” Jacobsen senior vice president - operations. Prior to joining Noble, Jacobsen served as vice president, global drilling and completions with Hess Corp. He attended both the US Coast Guard Academy and Virginia Tech, earning a bachelors degree. Additionally, the company has named Roger B. Hunt senior vice president - marketing and contracts. Hunt has more than 35 years’ experience in the industry and most recently served as senior vice president - marketing at GlobalSantaFe, a position he held from 1997 to 2007. Hunt holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Melbourne and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University.

Hyperdynamics taps Ray Leonard CEO

Hyperdynamics Corp. has appointed Ray Leonard as CEO and a director. Kent Watts, former CEO and chairman, has assumed the role of non-executive chairman. Leonard has 32 years’ experience in the oil industry focusing on exploration and business development. He most recently served as vice president of Eurasia & Exploration for Kuwait Energy Co. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Texas-Austin and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona. Hyperdynamics’ internationally active oil and gas subsidiary, SCS Corp., owns rights to explore and exploit 31,000 square miles offshore the Republic of Guinea, West Africa.

Schilling to succeed Ottoas Schilling Robotics CEO

Philip F. Otto has resigned as CEO of Schilling Robotics. Tyler Schilling, founder and chairman, was appointed to the position of president and CEO.

OHM appoints Cooper CEO

Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping (OHM) has promoted Richard Cooper to CEO and appointed him as a company director. He has been with the OHM group since the acquisition of Rock Solid Images Inc. in August 2007. He founded and was appointed president and CEO of Rock Solid Images in 1998. When the company was acquired he assumed a group role as president of the OHM group. Cooper has a strong background in geophysics and geology with international management experience.

Former US Commerce Sec elected to Oxy board

Occidental Petroleum Corp. has elected former US Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez to its board of directors. His election brings the Oxy board to 13 members, 12 of whom are independent outside directors. Secretary Gutierrez served as head of the Commerce Department from 2005 to January, 2009. Prior to his government service, he spent 30 years with Kellogg Co., serving as CEO from 1999 and chairman from 2000 to 2005. He studied at the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Queretaro, Mexico.
