Canadian Advanced taps Mangano as president, CEO

Edmonton-based oil and gas services company, Canadian Advanced Inc. has appointed Leo Mangano as president and CEO.

Edmonton-based oil and gas services company, Canadian Advanced Inc. has appointed Leo Mangano as president and CEO. Prior to joining CAI, Mangano held management positions at Wood Group, Weatherford, and Baker Hughes. Canadian Advanced provides electrical submersible pumping systems for artificial lift applications, horizontal multi-stage pumping systems for a variety of high pressure applications as well as variable frequency generators to the worldwide oil industry.

Husky names CFO

Alister Cowan has been named vice president and CFO of Husky Oil Operations Ltd. Prior to his appointment with Husky, Cowan served as executive vice president and CFO for BC Hydro based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Cowan holds a bachelor’s degree from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. Husky Energy is a Canadian-based integrated energy and energy-related company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta.

Kodiak names Keith Doss CFO

Denver-based Kodiak Oil & Gas Corp. has named Keith Doss as its CFO. Doss replaces James P. Henderson who has resigned. Doss brings over 20 years of public and private company experience in accounting and financial management. Prior to joining Kodiak, he held various accounting and controller positions at energy industry companies including, most recently, Gasco Energy, Western Gas Resources, and Red Cedar Gathering Co. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from The University of North Texas.

Occidental undergoes management changes

Occidental Petroleum Corp.’s executive vice president of Oxy Oil and Gas, Western Hemisphere, John W. Morgan, has elected to retire after almost 25 years of service. Between now and year-end, Morgan will continue as an Occidental Petroleum executive vice president responsible for special assignments. Additionally, the company has named William E. Albrecht as president, Oxy Oil and Gas USA. Replacing and reporting to Albrecht as Oxy Oil and Gas vice president, California operations, is Todd A. Stevens. Stevens has been leading Occidental’s mergers and acquisitions team and will continue as Occidental Petroleum vice president, acquisitions and corporate finance, until a replacement has been named. Both Albrecht and Stevens are US Military Academy graduates, with masters’ degrees from the University of Southern California. Occidental Petroleum Corp. is an international oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in the US, Middle East/North Africa, and Latin America regions.

Cairn India appoints Rick Bott new COO

Cairn India has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Rick Bott as executive director and COO. Bott brings global exploration and production experience with more than 20 years in the industry. He joins Cairn India from Devon Energy’s International division where he was vice president responsible for developing and implementing business growth and exploration strategy for assets in 12 countries outside of North America focusing on the deepwater, West Africa, South America and the Middle East/Asia. He holds a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University.

Energy Ventures adds to management team

Private equity firm Energy Ventures has added Jim Sledzik, Anoop Poddar, and Espen Strøm to its management team. These additions come in conjunction with the closing of Energy Ventures Fund III, which will invest $243 million in new oil and gas technologies. Sledzik and Poddar join the team as investment managers and Strøm joins as an analyst. Sledzik joins Energy Ventures with more than 18 years of experience in the oilfield services industry. He most recently served as global marketing director and vice president of multiclient services for WesternGeco and global account director for Schlumberger. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and an MBA from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to joining Energy Ventures, Poddar served as a vice president in the corporate finance division of Simmons and Co. in Aberdeen. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, a master’s degree from the Robert Gordon University, and a bachelor’s degree from the Indian School of Mines. Strøm joins from prior work as a financial analyst with ExxonMobil and as an auditor with Ernst & Young. He holds a master’s degree from Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration.

Ntephe to lead ERHC

ERHC Energy Inc. has appointed Peter Ntephe as acting CEO. He also will assume the newly created position of COO. Ntephe, who has served as corporate secretary for the Houston oil and gas company since 2001, is replacing Nicolae Luca. Luca, who had also been a director of ERHC since 2001, did not seek re-election. ERHC Energy Inc. is a publicly traded American company with oil and gas assets in the Gulf of Guinea. In addition, the company has named David Bovell vice president corporate development. Bovell brings more than 25 years experience in corporate finance to ERHC Energy. He most recently served as managing director of Green Corporate Finance Ltd. and as director of Equity Partners for Emerging Markets.

White & Case’s Attanasio selected EBA president

Global law firm White & Case’s Donna M. Attanasio has been named president of the Energy Bar Association (EBA). She was selected last year as EBA president-elect and assumed her position May 1. “The rapid pace of change in energy markets and energy regulation creates an escalating demand for the high-quality educational programming and legal scholarship that the association provides,” said Attanasio, partner in the Energy, Infrastructure and Project Finance Practice in the firm’s Washington, DC office. The Energy Bar Association is a non-profit voluntary association of attorneys, non-attorney professionals, and students, whose mission is to promote the professional excellence and ethical integrity of its members in the practice, administration, and development of energy laws, regulations, and policies.

Ambassador Jones named IEA deputy executive director

Richard H. Jones, a career diplomat of the US Senior Foreign Service currently serving as US Ambassador to Israel, has been designated for the post of the deputy executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA). He will take up his full duties on October 1. He will succeed Ambassador William Ramsay who has served as deputy executive director since July 1999. Jones has a bachelor’s degree from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, Calif., and a master’s and PhD degree from the University of Wisconsin.

Harvest Natural Resources elects new CFO, controller

Houston-based Harvest Natural Resources Inc. has elected Stephen C. Haynes as vice president, CFO, and treasurer. Previously, Haynes served as CFO for Cygnus Oil and Gas Corp. Before joining Cygnus, he was the corporate controller with Carrizo Oil and Gas. Haynes holds an MBA from the University of Houston and a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University. He also attended the Executive Development Program at Harvard University. Harvest also appointed Johnnye S. Yearwood as controller. Since December 1993, Yearwood has served in several capacities at Harvest, most recently as assistant controller. She received a bachelor’s degree from California State College. Haynes replaces Steven W. Tholen, senior vice president and CFO, who retired May 31. Yearwood replaces Kurt A. Nelson, vice president and controller, who also retired May 31.

Hickey resigns board, CFO post at Tullow Oil

Tom Hickey has resigned from the board of Tullow Oil plc and from the position of CFO. His decision reflects the considerable personal demands of his role in a London-based multi-national company and his desire to live full time in Ireland. The board has begun the process of recruiting his successor. Hickey will remain in his role until a suitable candidate has been identified. Tullow is an independent oil and gas, exploration and production group with interests focused in Europe, Africa, South Asia, and South America.

Technip names Real senior VP, financial control

Arnaud Real has been appointed senior vice president, financial control of Technip. Real joins the company from Alcatel-Lucent where he was corporate controller. He spent 17 years in finance and financial control with the Alcatel Group in France and in Belgium. Previously he worked for Coopers & Lybrand in Paris as an auditor. Technip provides oil, gas and petrochemical engineering, construction and services. The Group is headquartered in Paris.
