HOUSTON, Apr. 1
– ExxonMobil Corp. drilled an extended reach well in 2009 to a measured depth of 37,165 ft from the Heritage platform in California’s Santa Barbara Channel.

The company said the well set a new world record for total horizontal reach for a well drilled from an offshore facility. It plans to drill more extended reach wells to increase recovery.

ExxonMobil holds 100% interest in three platforms 5 miles off Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez development.
