HOUSTON, Sept. 14
– EnerGulf Resources Inc., Houston, is preparing to start a 2D seismic survey on the 475 sq km Lotshi Block south of Cabinda in Congo (former Zaire)’s onshore coastal salt basin.

China National Administration of Research Institute of Coal Geophysical Exploration, which has seismic survey experience in Les Zones du Bassin Cotier (ZBC), will shoot the survey.

Blocks off Cabinda closest to the ZBC hold the giant Malongo and Takula oilfield complexes operated by Chevron Corp. Adjacent to the ZBC in Cabinda are several shallow, undeveloped oil discoveries in blocks held by Devon Energy Corp., Occidental Petroleum Corp., and ROC Oil Co. Ltd.

The ZBC is also adjacent to the East Mibale, Laiwenda-Kinkasi, and Muana-Banana fields operated by Perenco. Perenco’s onshore fields average 9,000 b/d, and Chevron and Perenco’s offshore production averages 18,000 b/d.
