HOUSTON, Oct. 10 -- Shell International, a unit of Royal Dutch/Shell Group, has selected Weatherford International Inc., Houston, to supply its worldwide expandable product needs through 2003.

The deal could be worth more than $160 million, said Weatherford.

Weatherford will provide expandable sand screens and slotted drilling and completion liners to Shell in more than 30 countries.

Shell has been a pioneer in using expandable technologies. The company has said they are a necessary part of some slimhole drilling activity (OGJ Online, Apr. 30, 2001).

Expandable technology refers to tools that can be expanded after they have been installed downhole.
