HOUSTON, Dec. 10 -- US Sec. of Energy Spencer Abraham has named Marce Fuller chairman of the Department of Energy's Electricity Advisory Board.
She is CEO of Mirant Corp., Atlanta, a large independent power and marketing and trading concern.
Abraham named Linn Draper vice-chairman. Draper is CEO of American Electric Power Co. Inc., Columbus, a large investor-owned utility with an unregulated merchant and trading unit.
The Electricity Advisory Board has 39 members from all segments of the electricity industry. Congress created the board Nov. 9 in the Federal Advisory Committee Act.
The board has members from state regulatory commissions, investor owned utilities, grid operators, merchant energy firms, Wall Street, and the legal sector. Only three members represent public power and cooperatives.
Madalyn Cafruny, spokeswoman for American Public Power Association, noted that publicly owned power companies and cooperatives serve 25% of electricity consumers in the US.
Cafruny had no comment on the board's composition or the appointment of a chairman from merchant trading and sales.
