Pride Refining Inc., Abilene, Tex., has started two U.S. crude oil pipeline projects.

It has begun to reactivate a 143 mile pipeline from Hearne to Comyn, Tex., and connects with a line that runs to Ranger, Tex., and into the Pride refinery at Abilene. It also began construction of a 35 mile gathering system between Loving and Artesia, N. M.

The Texas project includes construction of a 20,000 bbl crude storage tank and injection facility at the origin of the pipeline in Hearne. Pride trucks began gathering crude July 29 in the Giddings area of the Austin chalk trend within a 50 mile radius of Hearne for delivery and injection into the line there.

Initial capacity of the reactivated line will be 16,000 b/d.

Pride is in the process of signing shipper contracts with Union Pacific Resources, Fort Worth, an Austin chalk oil producer; and Gulfmark, Houston, a crude oil gathering company in the Austin chalk area. The contracts call for delivery of about 12,000 b/d. Pride is negotiating with other companies for the remaining capacity of the line.

In addition to the line being reactivated, Pride has a parallel line that will start up when negotiations with shippers are complete.

Combined capacity will be about 25,000 b/d of crude.

The New Mexico gathering system, to be complete in October, will have a capacity of about 16,000 b/d. Oil will move through Amoco Pipeline Co.'s system from Artesia to Cushing, Okla.

Operators that will have production connected to the Pride line are Amoco Production Co., Exxon Co. U.S.A., Yates Petroleum Corp., Chevron U.S.A. Inc., Oryx Energy Co., R.B. Operating, and B.T.A. Oil Producers.

Total cost of reactivating the two pipelines from Hearne and laying the system in New Mexico is about $12 million.
