A group led by a unit of Union Texas Petroleum Holdings Inc., Houston, has lengthened its skein of discoveries in Southeast Pakistan.
Union Texas Pakistan Inc.'s latest strikes are a pair of gas wells - 1 Makhdumpur Deep and 1 Khorewah Deep - on its Badin I concession.
They are the company's 40th and 41st discoveries, respectively, since the Union Texas combine began exploration in the Badin area in April 1977. What's more, they help maintain the combine's exploration success rate of about 50%.
The Makhdumpur well flowed 15.2 MMcfd through a 40/64 in. choke with 1,780 psi flowing tubing pressure from basal sands of the lower Goru at 10,776-832 ft. it is the Union Texas group's deepest commercial well.
The Khorewah strike flowed 6.4 MMcfd through a 1/2 in. choke with 1,370 psi flowing tubing pressure from the same formation at 9,157-9,200 ft.
The group plans to drill as many as 13 wildcats this year in the Badin area.
Gross production by the combine - Union Texas and Occidental Petroleum (Pakistan) Inc. 30% each and state owned Oil & Gas Development Corp. 40% - amounted to 20,500 b/d of oil and 173 MMcfd of gas from Badin acreage in first quarter 1995.
