Magellan announces board resignation and election of new chairman

Magellan Petroleum Corp., Madison, Conn., announced that James R. Joyce, retiring CEO, president and chief financial officer and a company director, has submitted his resignations effective June 30, as a director of the company and as a director of Magellan Petroleum Australia Limited.

HOUSTON, June 29 -- Magellan Petroleum Corp., Madison, Conn., announced that James R. Joyce, retiring CEO, president and chief financial officer and a company director, has submitted his resignations effective June 30, as a director of the company and as a director of Magellan Petroleum Australia Limited, the company's majority-owned subsidiary (MPAL).

Current treasurer, Daniel J. Samela, will assume the roles of chief financial and accounting officer and acting president and CEO of the company.

The company also announced Walter McCann chairman. McCann is president emeritus of Richmond, The American International University, London, England. He has served as a director of the company since 1983 and a director of MPAL since 1997.

The board has determined not to fill the vacancy created by Joyce's resignation at this time.
