The US Bureau of Land Management began to revise its planning procedures by soliciting comments on ways it can be timelier and more efficient. The July 3 action came after US President Donald Trump signed House Joint Resolution 44, which nullified the agency’s Planning 2.0 rule, in March (OGJ Online, Mar. 28, 2017).

BLM already is working with state and local elected officials and groups, including the Western Governors’ Association and the National Association of Counties, to engage and gather input, said Michael Nedd, acting director.

“We are doing this because [US Interior Sec. Ryan Zinke] and President Trump both strongly believe that public engagement, especially at the local level, is a critical component of federal land management,” Nedd said.

Comments will be accepted through July 24.
