HOUSTON, May 16 -- The Domestic Petroleum Council, a trade association representing large US independent producers, has been renamed American Exploration & Production Council.

Duane Radtke, the group's chairman and president and chief executive officer of Dominion Exploration & Production Inc., said the new name reflects activities of the 24 members. At its creation in 1975, the council represented midsized companies of any type, including refiners. Radtke said it has included only E&P companies for many years.

In addition, he said, many members have operations outside the US.

The group has adopted the abbreviation AXPC. William F. Whitsitt remains president.
