Browne joins Riverstone as managing director, partner

BP PLC's former chief executive, John Browne, has accepted a role as managing director and managing partner of Riverstone Europe, a unit of New York-based Riverstone Holdings LLC.

HOUSTON, Aug. 24 -- BP PLC's former chief executive, John Browne, has accepted a role as managing director and managing partner of Riverstone Europe, a unit of New York-based Riverstone Holdings LLC, a private equity firm founded in 2000 that specializes in energy and power.

Browne will be based in London, where Riverstone said it will be opening an office.

In his new position, Browne will help expand the company's existing energy practice and identify opportunities in the alternative and renewable energy markets, Riverstone said.
