Smith elected National Fuel Gas chairman

National Fuel Gas Co., Williamsville, NY, has elected David F. Smith as chairman, succeeding Philip Co. Ackerman.

-- National Fuel Gas Co., Williamsville, NY, has elected David F. Smith as chairman, succeeding Philip C. Ackerman.

Smith joined NFG in 1978 and has been its president since 2006. He was named chief executive officer in 2008. Ackerman had been with NFG more than 40 years and was chairman since 2002.

NFG is the parent of Seneca Resources Corp., Houston, which explores for, develops, and buys gas and oil reserves in Texas and Louisiana, the Appalachian basin, the Southwest, and California.
