WASHINGTON, DC, July 25 -- The US Minerals Management Service and India's Oil Industry Safety Directorate (OISD) agreed July 21 to share offshore oil and gas regulatory knowledge and experience over the next several years.

MMS Director Johnnie Burton and OISD Executive Director J.B. Verma signed a memorandum of understanding in Washington, DC, to establish a cooperative framework for the countries' two agencies. They said they would work to develop cooperative activities under the MOU.

Verma and other OISD officials visited the Department of the Interior agency last week to observe US offshore activities, including various safety regulations, licensing, and approvals; audit and inspection programs; personnel training practices; and incident and accident investigation techniques.
