MegaWest Energy appoints new president

MegaWest Energy Corp., Calgary, has appointed R. William Thornton president in addition to his duties as chief operating officer. MegaWest specializes in nonconventional oil and gas projects with a focus on heavy oil in the US and Canada.

HOUSTON, Feb. 8 -- MegaWest Energy Corp., Calgary, has appointed R. William Thornton president in addition to his duties as chief operating officer.

Thornton has been MegaWest's chief operating officer since Jan. 1, 2007. George T. Stapleton II will remain MegaWest chairman and chief executive officer.

Previously, Thornton was Western Oil Sands general manager of petroleum engineering. Prior to that, he worked for Petrovera Resources, Gulf Canada, and Murphy Oil.

MegaWest specializes in nonconventional oil and gas projects with a focus on heavy oil in the US and Canada.

It owns or has the right to earn an interest in over 115,000 acres in Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Texas, and Montana.
