Martin Ferguson, former Australian Resources and Energy Minister in the Rudd and Gillard Labor governments, has been appointed a nonexecutive director of BG Group.

Ferguson adds the new role to his already full list of appointments since retiring from Parliament before this year’s election.

He is chairman of an advisory board of the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association as well as an executive with communications company Seven Group Holdings where he has responsibility for natural resources.

The former minister also chairs a Tasmanian government advisory panel into that state’s timber industry.

The BG Group appointment comes at a time the company is set to deliver the world’s first coal seam gas to LNG project in Gladstone, Queensland next year.
