Kate Baker assumes SPE presidency

Kate H. Baker assumed the presidency of the Richardson, Tex.-based Society of Petroleum Engineers during the SPE annual technical conference and exhibition in Denver last month.

HOUSTON, Oct. 30 -- Kate H. Baker assumed the presidency of the Richardson, Tex.-based Society of Petroleum Engineers during the SPE annual technical conference and exhibition in Denver last month.

Baker accepted the gavel on Oct. 8 from Andrew A. Young, the outgoing SPE president. The SPE presidency is a 1-year term.

A 28-year oil and gas industry veteran, Baker has been an SPE member since 1977. Currently, she is a senior petrotechnical advisor at BP America in Houston, a position she accepted in 2001. She began her career as a research geologist for Exxon Corp. where she worked for 19 years.

Baker joined Amoco Production Research Co. in 1994. Following the BP and Amoco merger, Baker became director of upstream digital business for BP Amoco.
