Mustang Engineering,
Houston, has named Curt Watson senior vice-president, global business development and marketing. Watson has over 30 years of engineering and construction expertise in the oil, gas, and chemical industries and most recently served as vice-president, projects, in the oil, gas, and chemicals division of URS Corp. He has held several senior level roles in business development and project execution during his career, both as an engineering and construction contractor and on the owner side with Vista Chemical and Union Carbide. Watson has a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland.

Mustang, a Wood Group company, provides services to the global oil, gas, chemical, and manufacturing industries, specializing in design, engineering, procurement, project management, and construction management and offers these services through its six business units: upstream oil and gas, midstream, pipeline, automation and control, refining and petrochemicals, and process and industrial.

Halliburton,

Houston, has acquired a majority interest in Shamrock Abandonment Solutions LLC, which provides an innovative, cost-effective approach to plug and abandonment (P&A) services. Shamrock analyzes the scope of work and project goals to provide a nontraditional, cost-efficient way of performing diagnostic and preparatory work related to the P&A process. While Shamrock will operate as a stand-alone business, it will be a part of Halliburton's wireline and perforating product service line in the Gulf of Mexico area.

Halliburton is one of the world's largest providers of products and services to the upstream oil and gas industry, covering the full reservoir lifecycle.

Clariant AG,

Muttenz, Switzerland, has agreed to acquire a controlling interest in Sud-Chemie AG, Munich, in a deal valued at 2 billion euros. Clariant has come to terms with majority shareholder One Equity Partners (50.4%) and family shareholders (about 46%). As a result, Clariant will acquire slightly more than 95% of the outstanding shares. The deal, subject to regulatory clearance, is expected to close in first half 2011.

Sud-Chemie operates two business units that hold a global leading position in the areas of process catalysts and adsorbents. It also conducts R&D on lithium-ion batteries and the production of second-generation bioethanol.

Clariant is a producer of specialty chemicals.

Krohne Group,

Duisburg, Germany, and Royal Dutch Shell PLC have agreed to commercialize a new multiphase flowmeter for oil and gas field installations based on magnetic resonance technology. The pact covers manufacturing, marketing, and sales of the new meter, which was developed through an R&D collaboration between Shell and magnetic resonance specialist Spinlock of Cordoba, Argentina. The goal is to bring commercial production of the first-generation flowmeter on line by 2012 while embarking on a joint technology development program for future versions in more demanding environments, such as subsea.

Spinlock is an R&D company specializing in the development of industrial applications for nuclear magnetic resonance and nuclear quadruple resonance technologies.

Krohne develops, manufactures, and sells products in the field of measuring technology.

GE Oil & Gas,

Florence, Italy, has opened its new hyperbaric testing chamber and a newly refurbished electrical and electronics assembly plant at Nailsea, UK. The new hyperbaric test chamber facility simulates extreme deepwater pressure conditions up to 6,382 psi, equivalent to a 14,436 ft water depth, for testing subsea control modules. It joins GE's main subsea equipment controls plant and subsea monitoring and remote technology center at Nailsea.

FMC Technologies Inc.,
Houston, has named John T. Gremp president and CEO, succeeding Peter D. Kinnear, who is retiring this year. Kinnear will continue as FMC chairman until Oct. 31, at which time Gremp will assume that position. Gremp, who also has joined the company's board of directors, was appointed president and COO of FMC in April 2010. Previously, he held a variety of management roles, recently serving as executive vice-president, energy systems, and vice-president, energy production.

FMC designs, manufactures, and services subsea production and processing systems, surface wellhead systems, high-pressure fluid control equipment, measurement solutions, and marine loading systems for the oil and gas industry.

Car-Ber Testing Services,

Sarnia, Ont., has announced that Denver-based private equity group Platt River Ventures has taken a controlling interest in the company.

Car-Ber was founded in 1995 in Sarnia to provide technical support and maintenance services to the petrochemical industry through a patented hydrostatic weld testing process and hydrostatic/hydrodynamic isolation capability. The company also provides a broad range of technical services to its customers, including cold cutting and beveling, field machining, plain end testing, hot taps, line stops, and controlled bolting.

Logan International Inc.,
Houston, has named David S. Jones senior vice-president and COO, downhole tools, and Lawrence D. Keister vice-president, finance, and CFO. Jones will be responsible for Logan Oil Tools, Dennis Tool Co., and Logan Completion Systems. Since joining Logan in 2009, Jones has served as senior vice-president and CFO. Prior to that, he was CEO and CFO at Elite Energy Services Inc. and in various operations and financial management positions at Weatherford International Ltd. Jones has a BBA from the University of Texas and is a CPA. Prior to joining Logan in 2010, Keister served as the CFO of several companies in the energy services and construction industries. He has a BBA from the University of Houston and also is a CPA.

Munich, has unveiled plans to build a manufacturing and service facility in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province to produce gas turbines and rotating equipment and to provide related repairs and services. It is slated to be operational 18 months after final approvals are secured.

Separately, Siemens has signed a corporate procurement agreement with Saudi Aramco giving the Saudi state oil company improved access to Seimens oil and gas division's rotating equipment and services. With an initial term of 7 years, the agreement will cover low-emission gas turbines up to 50 MW, high-efficiency steam turbines up to 200 MW, and compressors and blowers.

Siemens' energy sector is a leading supplier of products, services, and solutions for the generation, transmission, and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion, and transportation of oil and gas.

ABS,
Houston, has named Christopher J. Wiernicki CEO effective in April, succeeding Robert D. Somerville. Current Chairman and CEO Somerville will remain chairman of ABS and the ABS Group. Wiernicki will add the new title to the roles of president and COO he has held for the last 4 years. A 17-year veteran of ABS, Wiernicki previously served as president and COO of ABS Europe Ltd. and CTO, president, and COO of ABS Group. He joined ABS in 1993 as vice-president, engineering, in ABS's Americas division. Prior to ABS, Wiernicki was president and chief executive of naval architects Designers & Planners Inc. He has a BS in civil engineering from Vanderbilt University and masters' degrees in structural engineering from George Washington University and in ocean engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Additionally, Wiernicki is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.

ABS is a leading international classification society devoted to promoting the security of life, property, and the marine environment through the development and verification of standards for the design, construction, and operational maintenance of marine-related facilities.

Lee C. Moore,

Tulsa, has agreed to terms with two undisclosed premier international shipyards for the fabrication and supply of nine of its offshore derricks for use on new "deepwater" jack ups. Fabrication and deliveries to shipyards are scheduled for completion by yearend 2011. Terms of the sales were not disclosed, but they include options for an additional 12 derricks.

Lee C. Moore, a Woolslayer company, engineers and fabricates oil and gas drilling equipment and provides engineering design and analysis, drilling rig inspection and repairs, inspection training, feasibility studies, and project planning.

Parent Woolslayer is a worldwide provider of design, engineering, and fabrication of oil field masts, derricks, and drilling equipment components. The company also provides structural design and analysis, computer-aided design, feasibility studies, inspection and repair, and project management.

Honeywell International,

Morris Township, N.J., has formed a new business focused on providing advanced open software and services to the process industries by integrating the open connectivity and broad platform capability of its Matrikon acquisition with its fast-growing applications and solutions business. Honeywell's new Advanced Solutions business provides solutions for supply chain, production execution, and operational excellence in areas such as energy efficiency, compliance, performance improvement, asset effectiveness, industrial and cyber security, advanced process control and optimization, process design simulation, and operator training simulation in the oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, chemical, power, and mining sectors. Advanced Solutions is a part of Honeywell Process Solutions—itself a part of Honeywell's Automation & Control Solutions group.

In 2010, Honeywell acquired Matrikon, which provides software to help manage production, optimize operations, and monitor assets at industrial facilities, including oil and gas production, refining, energy, power, and mining.

Maxoil Solutions Inc.,

Aberdeen, has appointed Brad Nelson business development manager for its North and South America operations. Nelson, based in Houston, will develop opportunities in untapped markets for the company, including refining, petrochemicals, and shale gas in addition to consolidating Maxoil's oil and gas business in the Americas. He previously worked as an account manager for Proserv Offshore and has more than 25 years of industry experience in the design, application, and marketing of separation and produced water products and processes to the oil and gas sector.

Maxoil offers expertise in operations assurance, flow assurance, fluids separation, produced water management, sand and solids mitigation, gas treatment and transport, plant trouble shooting, advanced diagnostics, and debottlenecking.

CSL,
Aberdeen, has appointed Charlie Hughes as projects manager. With a background in precommissioning and project management from Acergy SA, Hughes will assist in expanding CSL's office in Stavanger to support both projects and field development studies. He will coordinate between Stavanger and Aberdeen to maximize service delivery efficiency to clients working in the Offshore Northwest Europe region as well as future projects in North and West Africa.

CSL delivers a complete range of project management services across the full lifecycle of oil and gas fields, including field development planning, project delivery, operations and maintenance, and decommissioning.

CGGVeritas,

Paris, has agreed to create a marine joint venture with PT Elnusa Tbk., Jakarta, to carry out 2D and 3D marine seismic surveys in the Asia Pacific region, with a main focus on Indonesia. CGGVeritas will contribute a state-of-the-art four-streamer vessel, purpose-built in Singapore, to the JV.

Separately, CGGVeritas has agreed to create a JV with JSC Geotech Holding to operate 2D and 3D marine seismic vessels, primarily in Russian and CIS waters. CGGVeritas will make available to the JV with Geotech one 2D ice-class vessel and one 3D ice-class vessel to the joint venture.

Elnusa, part of Indonesia's state-owned Pertamina, is an integrated upstream oil and gas services company.

Houston, has named Cobie Loper senior vice-president, sales and marketing, for North America. He has 20 years of experience in the offshore oil and gas industry in business development, commercial, technology, and operations areas. Loper previously worked for DeepFlex Inc. as senior vice-president, sales and marketing. He has a BSE in materials and science engineering from the University of Florida and started his career with Wellstream, where he eventually was named vice-president, business development.

SBM Atlantia is an integrated provider for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of complete floating production solutions for the deepwater market.

William M. Cobb & Associates Inc.,
Dallas, has named Michael L. Wiggins president, succeeding William M. Cobb, who founded the company in 1983. Cobb will continue to be associated with the firm as president emeritus and will continue to offer industry short courses and technical services. Cobb has bachelor's and master's degrees from Mississippi State University and a PhD from Stanford University, all in petroleum engineering. He was the 2008 president of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Wiggins joined William M. Cobb & Associates in 2006 as a vice-president following 15 years as a tenured member of the petroleum and geological engineering faculty at the University of Oklahoma. He has bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University and has over 30 years of combined industry and academic experience. He is a Distinguished Member of SPE and has served on its board and many technical committees.

Paris, has announced plans to open a mill in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The new plant will assemble drill pipe, risers, and landing strings for operators and offshore and onshore drilling contractors. Start-up is slated for April.

VAM Drilling offers drill pipe, heavyweight drill pipe, drill collars, nonmagnetic drill collars and MWD housings, safety valves, and accessories for all drilling applications.
