Santos advances Campbell platform decommissioning with contract award
Santos Ltd. has let a contract to McDermott International Ltd. to advance a decommissioning project offshore Australia.
With the engineering, procurement, removal, and disposal contract, McDermott will aid in removal and disposal of the Campbell platform, part of the Varanus Island Hub offshore infrastructure in Western Australia, the service provider said in a release Nov. 21.
The Campbell platform, a monopod structure secured to the seabed by three piled legs, has minimal topside equipment. It lies in Carnarvon basin, about 105 km west-northwest of Dampier.
All wells associated with the platform have been plugged and abandoned and minimal production pipework remains on the topside. All well conductors have been cut to within 1 m of seabed in preparation for removal.
Under the contract scope, McDermott will provide project management and engineering services for the removal and transportation of the platform topsides, substructure, and associated items to an onshore facility, where it will be dismantled and disposed.
Project management and engineering will be executed by McDermott's team in Perth, Australia, with support from Batam, Indonesia, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Decommissioning of the Campbell platform is the fourth decommissioning project executed by McDermott in Australia in the last 2 years.
McDermott values the contract at $1-50 million.
