CGX Energy Inc., operator of the Corentyne block offshore Guyana, let a contract to Maersk Drilling Holdings Singapore Pte. Ltd. for use of the Maersk Discoverer semi-submersible rig and associated services for drilling the Kawa-1 well.

Spudding of the well is targeted for early in this year’s third quarter and is expected to take 75-85 days. The contract includes an optional well on the Demerara block with an anticipated 40 day-duration.

The primary target of the firm well is a Santonian age, stratigraphic trap, interpreted to be analogous to the discoveries immediately to the east on Block 58 in Suriname. The Kawa-1 well is expected to be drilled to 6,500 m total depth in 370 m of water.

Frontera Energy is joint venture partner in the 1.125-million net acre block.
