Spirit Energy has let a contract to Wood Group to partner on the delivery of late life solutions for UK’s Morecambe Bay gas fields.

With the 5-year consolidated services contract—valued at $130 million—Wood will leverage capability in late life asset optimization and management to extend field life, lower costs, and reduce late life carbon intensity across the hub’s offshore assets in the East Irish Sea and the Barrow onshore gas terminal on the northwest coast of England.

The Morecambe hub comprises three fields in the East Irish Sea - North Morecambe, South Morecambe, and Rhyl. The fields lie 25 km south west of Walney Island, across Blocks 110/2a, 110/3a, 110/8a, and 113/27b, in water depths of 17-35 m. The hub has produced gas for the UK for more than 30 years.

The contract will employ 130 people across the offshore assets and onshore terminal and a small support team in Aberdeen.
