Petronas subsidiary PSE Kinsale Energy Ltd. is progressing decommissioning operations of gas fields in the Kinsale area in the Celtic Sea, about 50 km off the south coast of Cork, Ireland.
AGR’s Aberdeen-based team was awarded the contract for well decommissioning services in 2018 and is overseeing planning and decommissioning of 14 platform wells and 10 subsea wells to be completed in two phases. AGR is responsible for managing abandonment design, supply chain, regulatory compliance, planning and execution of well decommissioning.
Operations of Phase 1 on the Alpha platform have been completed. The companies are preparing for Phase 2 and have mobilized a hydraulic workover unit and associated equipment and services to permanently plug the wells. Operations on the nearby Kinsale Bravo platform are expected to begin in the coming months.
The Stena Spey semisubmersible will mobilize to the Celtic Sea in April 2021 for subsea well decommissioning. Platform well decommissioning is expected to be complete by mid-2021.
The gas fields first came into production in 1978, and production ceased in July this year.
