Var Energi acquired Olympic Energy and Troms Sirius vessels for service in the North Sea.

Both vessels will operate between Balder field and Dusavik quay, north of Stavanger. Troms Sirius will commence late November 2020, and Olympic Energy in February 2021.

Olympic Energy runs on natural gas (LNG) and has a 460-kWh battery pack on board. The battery switches on when energy consumption is at its peak. The ship can connect to shore power and charge the battery when the ship is at the quay. Troms Sirius uses traditional fuel but will be upgraded to connect to shore power during quay stays.

Var Energi plans to drill 13 new production wells and one water injection well in Balder to extract 136,000 MMboe (OGJ Online, Jan. 13, 2020). The field is expected to start up in summer 2021.

Var Energi owns (90%) of Balder with partner Mime Petroleum AS (10%).
