Pelosi picks NRDC official as her new policy advisor for energy

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) named Karen Wayland, currently the Natural Resources Defense Council's legislative director, as her new policy advisor for energy on Feb. 3.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) named Karen Wayland, currently the Natural Resources Defense Council's legislative director, as her new policy advisor for energy on Feb. 3.

Wayland, who also is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, received a dual PhD in geology and resource development from Michigan State University, and a master degree in natural resources management and a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Connecticut.

She will succeed Amy Fuerstenau, who recently left the speaker's staff to work for the Energy Foundation in San Francisco.

Pelosi also announced two other staff appointments. She named Anne Cannon MacMillan as her new policy advisor for agriculture, veterans, small business and rural outreach; and Bridget Fallon as her new protocol and special events director.
