MMS, India agency agree to informally share offshore resource information

The US Minerals Management Service informally agreed with its counterpart in India on Aug. 21 to exchange offshore oil, gas, and mineral resource management and development information.

The non-binding memorandum of understanding aims to share best practices aims to share best practices in leasing, resource evaluation, and methane hydrate research and development, MMS said. The agreement will comply with applicable laws in both countries, it indicated.

Gregory J. Gould, MMS associate director for minerals resource management, and V.K. Sibal, director general of India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH), signed the MOU during a joint meeting in Houston.

“This is the beginning of many years of close cooperation between the DGH and MMS, specifically on methane hydrate research,” Sibal said.
