Petroleum Agency SA of South Africa has entered into a technical cooperation agreement with Global Energy Holdings LLC, Littleton, Colo., for a study of the oil and gas potential of Blocks 3B and 4B off the west coast of South Africa. Global Energy�s strategic alliance partners, Scott Pickford and Nigel Press Associates, will provide certain technical support to Global Energy. Global Energy will reprocess existing geological and geophysical data and compile a report on the area. Global Energy has the option to proceed to a full prospecting agreement, which will require the acquisition of new seismic data and the drilling of one or more exploration wells.
Shell Exploration (China) Ltd. and China National Petroleum Corp. have begun a joint study of natural gas development in northwestern China's Tarim basin. The companies have agreed to conduct a 6-month study over a 20,000 sq km area in the Kuqa depression area in the northern part of the basin. The study will evaluate Kuqa's gas reserves, production potential, and technical and commercial viability. Kuqa is one of five gas provinces in the Tarim basin from which CNPC unit PetroChina Co. Ltd. plans to boost gas production to provide supplies for a pipeline to Shanghai that is expected to be completed in 2005.
