Shell lets contract for US Gulf Kaikias project

The project involves installing a subsea umbilical, riser, and rigid flowline at depths of up to 1,650 m.

Shell plc has let a contract to Subsea 7 SA for work on the Kaikias waterflood project in the US Gulf of Mexico.

Kaikias field is a deepwater development in the Mars-Ursa basin, about 210 km off the Louisiana coast. The waterflood project is aimed at secondary oil recovery at the field. 

The scope of work includes the transportation and installation of a subsea umbilical, riser, and a rigid flowline in water depths of up to 1,650 m, the service provider said in a release Jan. 29.

Project management and engineering activities will begin immediately from Subsea7's Houston, Tex., office, with offshore operations scheduled for 2027.

The service provider values the contract at $50-150 million.
