Chevron Australia has let a subsea installation contract to Subsea 7 SA for the Gorgon Stage 3 (GS3) project, offshore Australia.

Subsea7’s scope of work includes project management, engineering, procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation, and pre-commissioning of subsea equipment and associated infrastructure at GS3, at 1,350 m water depth.

The service provider said project management and engineering work will begin immediately from its office in Perth, Australia.

GS3 will connect offshore Geryon and Eurytion natural gas fields in the Greater Gorgon Area to Gorgon’s existing subsea gas gathering infrastructure and processing infrastructure on Barrow Island. Development involves installation of three manifolds and a 35-km production flowline among other associated infrastructure.

Gorgon comprises a three-train, 15.6 million tonnes/year (tpy) LNG plant and a domestic gas plant with the capacity to supply 300 terajoules/day of gas for the WA market and 15.6 million tpy of LNG.

The Chevron-operated Gorgon Project is a joint venture of Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (47.33%), ExxonMobil (25%), Shell (25%), Osaka Gas (1.25%), MidOcean (1%), and JERA (0.417%).
