Ithaca Energy lets contract to TechnipFMC for continued Captain field development
Ithaca Energy has let a contract to TechnipFMC for flexible risers on the Captain development in the UK North Sea.
TechnipFMC will design, manufacture, and install flexible risers, flowlines, and associated hardware, the company said in a release Dec. 8. TechnipFMC values the contract somewhere between $75 and $250 million.
Captain field lies about 90 miles (145 km) northeast of Aberdeen, Scotland, in the Outer Moray Firth, in water depths of around 346 ft. (105.5 m).
The field includes a wellhead protector platform and bridge linked platform connected to a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel and two subsea manifolds tied back and connected to the platforms by a suite of pipelines.
Captain reached first production in March 1997 and has benefited from technology enhancements, including the second phase of an enhanced oil recovery project supported by TechnipFMC in 2024, the service provider said.
Sanctioned in April 2021, the second EOR phase aims to double net production to about 30,000 boe/d and reach peak production in 2026.
Captain gas is exported (and imported) via subsea pipeline to the Frigg UK Gas Transportation System and then on to St Fergus gas terminal.
Ithaca Energy is working to sustain production and increase recovery at the field through active platform and subsea well in-fill drilling and completion programs targeting key areas of the reservoir. Continued development drilling is expected through the next decade.
Captain is operated by Ithaca Energy (UK) Ltd. (85%). Dana Petroleum (E&P) Ltd. holds teh remaining 15% interest.
