Petrobras started construction of the P-91 FPSO for its Búzios 12 deepwater project offshore Brazil.
The new unit will be the 12th platform for the Búzios field and will function as a hub for exported gas. Gas will be directed to the Boaventura Energy complex in Itaboraí through the Route 3 gas pipeline until it reaches the coast.
P-91 will be connected to 16 wells, eight producers, and eight alternating water and gas injectors with a capacity to produce 180,000 b/d of oil and 12 million cu m/day (MMcmd) of natural gas.
Petrobras adopted the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model for the FPSO, in which the contractor is responsible for the design, construction, assembly, and operation of the asset for an initial period defined in the contract. Later, the operation will be transferred to Petrobras.
Búzios lies in pre salt Santos basin in water depth of 1,900-2,200 m. The field is expected to produce up to 1 MMboe/d in second-half 2025 with the goal of reaching 2 million b/d by 2030. It is on track to surpass Tupi as the company's largest producing field.
Petrobras is operator of the Búzios field (88.99%) with partners China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC, 3.67%) and China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC, 7.34%).
