Equinor Energy AS has awarded a SIMOPRO—simultaneous marine operation and production—installation contract to DeepOcean for work on the Norwegian continental shelf.

DeepOcean’s scope of work entails installation work on both Åsgård and Visund fields. The ocean services provider will undertake onshore project management, engineering, and procurement services as well as offshore operations.

DeepOcean’s work on Åsgard includes riser removal at the Åsgard B semi-submersible floating platform and installation of a new production riser and dynamic umbilical connecting the Berling subsea production assets to Åsgard B.

The Åsgard scope also includes installation of two static infield bypass umbilicals and installation of flying leads and protection covers. Åsgard field lies in the Norwegian Sea, about 200 km off the coast of Norway at water depths of 240-300 m.

At Visund, the work scope includes replacement of a production riser. Visund field lies in the North Sea, about 140 km west of Florø, in water depths of about 335 m.

Installation work will be carried out during the main summer season of 2026, utilizing the Edda Freya construction vessel.

Last week, Equinor and Åsgard partners began the second phase of Åsgard subsea compression. The work aims to maintain production from the field by increasing the pressure in the pipelines between the wells and the Åsgard B platform.

The first compressor module in phase two was replaced in 2023, now the second and final module has been installed at a depth of 270 m, Equinor said in a release Sept. 26.
