ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Cyprus (Offshore) Ltd. discovered gas in the Pegasus-1 well in Block 10 of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus, country officials reported on a government website July 7.

The well was drilled about 190 km offshore southwest of Cyprus by the Valaris DS-9 drillship in 1,921 m of water. Drilling indicated about 350 m of gas-bearing reservoir. Further assessment will be required in the coming months to evaluate the results.

This is the second gas discovery made in Block 10 by ExxonMobil following the discovery at the Glaucus-1 well in 2019. The Glaucus-2 appraisal well, completed in March 2022, confirmed the existence of high-quality gas-bearing reservoir (OGJ Online, Mar. 24, 2022).

ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Cyprus (Offshore) is operator (60%) with partner QatarEnergy International E&P LLC (40%).
