Gran Tierra Energy Inc., Calgary, plans further drilling this year near an appraisal well in Colombia’s Middle Magdalena Valley basin that flowed oil at high pressure from Upper Cretaceous La Luna carbonate.

The Ayombero-1 well flowed naturally at rates of 100-600 b/d of 19° gravity oil from the Galembo member of the formation. Output averaged 262 b/d with no formation water over 323 hr in April.

Flowing tubing head pressure was steady at 1,466 psi. Flow was from 70 ft of perforations in 200-275 ft of net potential oil pay.

Because of overpressure, the Galembo member was cased but not cemented. Gran Tierra, with a 100% working interest, is considering additional perforations, stimulation, and pumping.

Gran Tierra drilled the well to appraise a structure designated Ayombero-Chuira about 30 km north of the company’s Acordionero field, which produced oil at an average rate of 17,302 b/d in March.

The operator brought two Acordionero development wells on production in the first quarter, drilled one, and spudded one.

Through the rest of 2018, Gran Tierra plans to drill six more Acordionero development wells, two water injectors, and one water-source well. Water injection has begun.

An expansion of central processing facilities will allow production capacity of the field to increase to 30,000 b/d. Gran Tierra holds 100% working interest.
