Rusia Petroleum, owned by a number of Russian and foreign companies including Tyumen Oil Co. and BP PLC, has begun discussions with Gazprom and government officials about the development of Kovykta gas-condensate field. The participants discussed a program to supply East Siberian and Far Eastern gas to China and other Asia-Pacific countries.
GEOCAN Energy Inc., Calgary, cased its first exploration well in the Czech Republic. Postorna-1 well on Breclav Block found "high quality reservoir sands" with strong hydrocarbon indication in a Miocene-aged shallow marine deltaic sand identified as the Lab horizon. GEOCAN holds a 64.7058% working interest before payout in the well and a 55% after payout working interest.
Petroleum Geo-Services ASA, Oslo, secured $33 million in prefunded multi-client seismic acquisition work totaling nearly 4,450 sq km in the Campos and Espirito Santos basins off Brazil. There are two surveys in the Espirito Santos basin and one in the Campos basin.
Texas-based BNP Petroleum Corp. was to spud La Playa-1 exploration well on Padre Island south of Texas this week. Participant Novus Petroleum Ltd., Sydney, said this is its first US exploration well.
