China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) discovered Hexingchang gas field during its Project Deep Earth in Sichuan, China. The proven geological reserves amount to 133.012 billion cu m (bcm).

Project Deep Earth drills into the Shunbei ultra deep carbonate condensate and gas reservoir in Tarim basin. The reservoir has an average burial depth of more than 7,300 m and contains 1.2 billion boe total recoverable reserves (OGJ Online, Nov. 28, 2023).

Sinopec has discovered a series of large gas fields in the basin, such as Puguang gas field, the largest marine-phase sour gas field in China, Yuanba gas field, the first ultra-deep marine-phase sour gas field in the world of over 7,000 m deep, Fuling shale gas field, the first 10 bcm shale gas field in China, and Weirong shale gas field, China's first deep shale gas field with proven reserves of over 100 bcm, the company said.
