Mubadala Energy discovers gas offshore North Sumatra

Mubadala Energy discovered gas in the South Andaman I license, offshore North Sumatra, Indonesia.

Mubadala Energy made a significant gas discovery in the Layaran-1 well on the South Andaman I license, offshore North Sumatra, Indonesia, the company said in a release Dec. 19.

Layaran-1 is the first of a four-well exploration campaign targeting the same Oligocene play as the successful Timpan-1 well drilled on Andaman II in 2022.

The rig will now move to drill the Harbour Energy PLC-operated Halwa and Gayo wells on Andaman II.

Mubadala Energy is operator at South Andaman I (80%) with partner Harbour Energy holding the remaining 20%.
