Lundin Energy Norway AS and partners will assess a minor North Sea discovery for possible tie-in to Solveig field. Preliminary estimates place the size of the discovery at 0.5-1.4 million standard cu m recoverable oil equivalent.
Exploration well 16/4-13 S—the sixth in PL 359—was drilled about 15 km south of Edvard Grieg field and 190 km west of Stavanger by the West Bollsta drilling facility in 100 m of water to measured and vertical depths of 2,422 m and 2,325 m subsea. It was terminated in Paleozoic rocks.
The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks from the Triassic to Paleozoic age. The well encountered an oil column of 10 m in conglomerate sandstone in these rocks, about 7 m of which with moderate to poor reservoir quality.
Oil-water contact was encountered 1950 m below the sea surface. The entire reservoir, including the water zone, consists of conglomeratic sandstones in a thickness of about 380 m. Extensive data acquisition and sampling have been carried out.
The drilling facility will now drill production well 16/4-BA-1H in the license.
Lundin is operator at PL359 (65%) with partners OMV (Norge) AS (20%), and Wintershall Dea Norge AS (15%).
