TotalEnergies lets FPSO-related contract to SBM Offshore for Suriname development
TotalEnergies EP Suriname BV has let an operations and maintenance contract to SBM Offshore for the GranMorgu FPSO as part of the field development project in Block 58 in Suriname.
The contract covers the operation readiness phase before first oil as well as the operations and maintenance services for a minimum of 2 years after first oil with extension options, SBM Offshore said in a release June 19.
TotalEnergies took final investment decision on the GranMorgu project in October 2024 aimed at developing the Sapakara and Krabdagu oil discoveries following a successful exploration and appraisal campaign that was completed in 2023. The fields lie 150 km off the coast of Suriname and hold recoverable reserves estimated at over 750 million bbl, according to the operator.
The 220,000-b/d GranMorgu FPSO is designed to accommodate future tie-back opportunities that would extend production plateau, according to TotalEnergies. The vessel is designed as an all-electric configuration, with zero routine flaring and full reinjection of associated gas into the reservoirs; a waste heat recovery unit and water cooling; and a permanent methane detection and monitoring system.
First oil from the $10.5-billion project is expected in 2028.
TotalEnergies is operator of Block 58 with a 50% interest, alongside APA Corp. (50%). Staatsolie intends to exercise its option to enter the development project with up to 20% interest. That interest is expected to be finalized before June 2025.
