PMT JV decommissions Tapti field

The Panna-Mukta and Tapti (PMT) joint venture partners completed India’s first offshore decommissioning project with the removal of mid and south Tapti field infrastructure off the country’s west coast. 

The decommissioning project, under operation by joint venture partners Shell plc (through BG Exploration & Production India Ltd.), Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd. (ONGC), and Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL), included removal of five wellhead platforms and associated infield pipelines, completion of load-in at the onshore dismantling yard, and plugging and abandoning 38 wells.

Production from the Tapti oil fields ceased in March 2016. 

Contracts were awarded to Indian companies Larsen and Toubro (L&T) for offshore execution and g (CLSPL) for onshore dismantling. The contract scope of work for L&T, awarded in 2022, involved engineering, preparation, removal, and transportation of the five offshore wellhead platforms and associated infrastructure. 

Offshore operations have been completed, and dismantling is under way at CLSPL’s facilities in Ratnagiri.
