Woodside Petróleo Operaciones de México (S. de R.L. de CV) has let a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel contract to SBM Offshore for the Trion deepwater oil field development in the Perdido Belt in western Gulf of Mexico.
Under the contract, SBM Offshore will construct and thereafter lease to Woodside an FPO for 20 years. The new build FSO, based on a Suezmax-type hull, will be equipped with a disconnectable turret mooring system designed by SBM Offshore. It will be moored in water depth of about 2,500 m and will be able to store around 950,000 bbl of crude oil.
The award follows the transportation and installation contract for the FSO and the FPU awarded to SBM Offshore in 2023.
Trion lies 180 km off the Mexican coastline and 30 km south of the Mexico-US maritime border in water depths up to 8,200 ft. The field will be developed with 18 wells (nine producers, seven water injectors, and two gas injectors) drilled in the initial phase and a total of 24 wells drilled over the life of the project. The development is targeting 479 MMboe of best estimate (2C) contingent oil and gas (OGJ Online, Dec. 6, 2023).
Woodside is operator at Trion (60%) with partner PEMEX Exploración y Producción (40%).
