Strike Energy Ltd. intersected a gas accumulation northeast of the producing Walyering gas field within the Perth basin of Western Australia in production license (PL) L23.

Appraisal of the Walyering-7 (W7) well interpreted a total of 23 m of net gas pay with an average 16% porosity, where net pay intervals are made up of blocks of high-quality reservoir within much larger gross sections, the company said in a release June 3. Additional zones of potential pay in other reservoirs have been identified, but due to the inability of the sampling tool to reach total depth, only remain subject to demonstrating gas flows during the testing phase before a potential upgrade to additional net gas pay, the company said.

W7 was drilled from a surface co-located with the Walyering gas processing plant directionally to the east into a fault compartment north-east of the producing Walyering-5 structure. The well intersected a gas accumulation in the primary sandstone reservoirs within the Cattamarra Coal. Mud logs, logging while drilling logs, mobilities, and reservoir pressures have been collected across these reservoirs.

The well will be tested through the Walyering gas plant shortly after the departure of the Ensign 970 drilling rig. Productivity, gas compositions, and connected volumes will be assessed and will inform the planned update to the field reserves and resources review, Strike said.

Subject to successful flow testing, W7 will be permanently tied into the plant and will support future gas marketing activities.

Strike Energy is 100% owner and operator of PL L23.
