HOUSTON, Feb. 2 -- A joint venture led by BHP Billiton Ltd. has let a contract to INTEC Engineering for deepwater subsea development execution support for Shenzi oil and gas field in 4,400 ft of water in the Gulf of Mexico.

The award is a continuation of engineering support work, which started with prefeasibility, FEED, and detail engineering, and will continue through December 2008.

The INTEC contract scope includes detailed design of in-field risers, flowlines, manifolds, rigid pipe jumpers, gas-lift distribution units, thermal analysis, support for the invitation to bid and technical review of bids, technical review of third-party designs, and subsea equipment installation support.

The Shenzi subsea development project lies on Green Canyon Blocks 609, 610, 653, and 654, and includes three main drill centers supporting as many as 15 oil wells. The field's production will initially be routed through four manifolds via four production steel catenary risers.

Shenzi coventures include Repsol YPF SA and Amerada Hess Corp.
