LONDON, Jan. 22 -- Fortune Oil PLC plans to frac a coal seam confirmed in two appraisal wells on Liulin Block in China's Shanxi province and will test its potential for coalbed methane production.

Fortune found 19 m of coal seams in its appraisal wells. EP2 was drilled to 1,166 m TD, and EP1 was drilled to 615 m in the north-central portion of the block.

"The target seam for CBM production, the adjoining seams 8/9, has a large thickness of 7.4 m at EP2 and 5.4 m at EP1, which indicates that this target seam could have a significant production potential," Fortune said.
